I remember the time Clyde took me for a ride on his new sled. I also remember how he felt responsible for each and every one of us in turn. He was a good brother and fiery tempered one too!

I remember how he and his boy-friend, Bill, applauded so long when I was presented a prize at my 8th Grade Graduation. I also remember how he said any fellow who came to see Ethel or me would be carried out by an undertaker.

I remember the time he went to the fire station and got the key to the garage and we snuck Father’s car and went riding for the afternoon and meant to get back before Father got home from work, but we didn’t make it and when we got back, Father had locked the garage, so Clyde drove up to the house and went in to take his “medicine” like a man!

I remember Clyde when he met Father and me in Pittsburgh when I was 16. Clyde was in the Army at Ft. Leavenworth that year and came on furlough to be with us on our vacation. Father took us to a Chinese place for dinner and dancing, and though the place was crowded, no one else joined us when Clyde and I danced. Father beamed, but Clyde and I were young enough to be embarrassed to be the only ones dancing, and spoiled Father’s evening by refusing to dance again.

I remember how he used to fight battles for me when bigger boys bullied me - how he licked Bill McCormick, and I placed him there and then on a pedestal - how good looking I thought he was when he was just out of his teens - how glad I was when he came back to Panama after service in the the Army - how he taught me to fly - the hard way - in the Glider, and the able way in the Cub - I’ll always be sorry we were fated to drift apart.

I remember Clyde! One day Clyde was taking me to Balboa from Cristobal in his Eagle Rock plane. I climbed in the plane and was seated in the front seat in order to choke the motor while he spun the prop, when all of a sudden a huge flame shot out of the plane’s radiator (which was about as big around as a small pie plate). Clyde yelled for me to get out of the plane (the gas tank was right at my feet!) so I started slowly out and Clyde came over and yanked me out - but then the flame died out - so I crawled back into the plane and choked it some more and Clyde turned the prop - the motor caught - and off we went to the Pacific Side!

I remember Clyde - at the Cotillion Club - dancing. Could he dance!! He was wonderful, and we always had more fun!

I remember Clyde first when Doris and I used our play cooking utensils at the head of his couch where he was napping and pretended his hair was our fire!

And I remember his Irish grin when he came to see us in his uniform - we took pictures and he was so wonderful to see! Mother was in raptures - and I was snaggle-toothed in thos pictures.

And in later years I remember him as Master of Ceremonies at the Cotillion Club!

I don’t remember too clearly, but I seem to remember going to Clyde’s Army Barracks with him when I was real little, and then we went to four movies, one right after the other! I was in SEVENTH HEAVEN!

I remember I was always so proud of my “red headed” brother, and how he took care of me and gave me advice. I remember how he was so good about loaning me his car when I was just 18 - it was so important to me then!

He is a most satisfactory BIG brother!
